Introduction
It was in the shade of the gigantic Ebony trees
that grace the gardens of the River Lodge camp that the original
pioneering families camped in the cold July of 1937. On the first
night of their adventure, a male lion harassed them in their
makeshift camp! He was hunted the following day and destroyed; the
stories of man-eaters from further north in Kenya prompting this
drastic action. Much has changed since those early days; comfort;
elegance and style in particular, but much has remained the same.
Exeter Private Game Reserve is still a wild part of Africa where
lions still roam free.
